"wren's lullaby" for Double String Orchestra (Full Score and Parts) PDFs

$40.00

Instrumentation: Double String Orchestra

Difficulty: Intermediate (Grade 3 & Grade 4)

Duration: ca. 4 minutes

About the piece: Perfect for a side-by-side concert involving ensembles of varying levels, this work was commissioned by Conductor Michael Edwards for his two string orchestras at the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park Music Program.

Program note:
In the quiet corners of hedgerows and woodland edges, a small bird sits perched beside her young. The mother wren, unassuming yet remarkably devoted, sings a unique family song to her hatchlings, imparting a musical lesson — and a singular sense of identity and belonging.

In many parts of the world — Australia, the Caribbean islands, Mexico, and the northeastern United States — certain wren species are now endangered, threatened by the destruction of their habitats. It is my hope that this short piece serves as a reminder to consider the wren and other vulnerable species, for such poignant demonstrations of love often arise from the smallest and most fragile creatures.

Document Sizes: Score and parts are formatted for printing on A4 paper, though these technically could be printed on any size paper. Popular substitutions may be Tabloid (11”x17”) and Letter (8.5”x11”) size paper, respectively.
